Information is available from many sources about specific types of cancer, like leukemia or breast cancer. Some patients may wish to join support groups with others who have the same diagnosis. Patients may need other services that are specific to their kind of cancer, such as prostheses for patients with bone cancer, breast forms for women with mastectomies, or ostomy bags for patients with colon or rectal cancer. Both the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute have information about cancer-specific support groups and services.
The following list is a sampling of cancer-specific resources available by phone or on the Internet. Information found on the Internet may not always be accurate. Web sites sponsored by colleges, universities, health care professionals, or government agencies are usually more reliable than commercial sites. Contact the American Cancer Society or the National Cancer Institute if you have questions about specific organizations
